Speed-to-Need

How fast a member's real need gets met. The faster the community answers the thing someone actually came for, the stickier it is.

Every member arrives with a need — a question, a connection, a problem, a place to belong. Speed-to-need is how quickly the community delivers on it. The first time someone posts and gets a fast, genuinely helpful response, they're hooked; the first time they post into silence, they start leaving.

Stewards engineer speed-to-need deliberately: a strong first-comment habit, people primed to welcome and route, and SOPs that get questions in front of someone who can help. Speed early is what converts a visitor into a member.

Key takeaways

  • Speed-to-need = how fast the community meets why someone came
  • A fast first helpful reply converts; silence churns
  • Engineer it with welcome habits, routing, and SOPs
